Looking for a smaller and faster Laser Printer – Canon LBP214dw

We recently had the opportunity to take a close look at one of Canon’s new business laser printer models and we were a bit impressed. It was quiet, fast and simple to setup. Here are the details we learned about this printer.

The imageCLASS LBP214dw printer comes with a 2.0 USB port, Wireless 802.11 B/G/N and a Gigabit Ethernet jack. It also has 1GB of memory right out of the box and can store 250 sheets in its bottom paper draw and another 100 in it top bypass try which also accommodates envelopes. It can hold a total of 900 pages with an additional paper tray that is offered for this model. The warm up time listed on it’s specifications sheet claimed 4 seconds or less from the printer being asleep but 100% of our testing showed less than one second over the Gigabit Ethernet port. We tested several sized print documents and types including pdf, Excel, Open Office and tiff images using the Canon Generic Plus UFR II print driver and found the first page out to be a few seconds faster than listed in the specifications. Most first page out jobs completed within 3 to 4 seconds from sleep mode. Speeds tested slightly about a second faster when the printer was not in sleep mode.

We found the LBP214dw printer also offers an additional paper tray (Cassette-AH1) Item number 0732A033 that holds up to 550 additional sheets! We also took notice of the ease of use duplex options and this printer’s overall desk size. Boasting Dimensions of just (WxDxH) 15.8 in x 14.7 in x 9.8 in this is much smaller than several of its replacements. The printer prints at 600 x 600 dpi resolution and comes with a one year warranty from Canon.

In the box we were happy to find a warranty card, starter toner that was good for about 1700 sheets, a standard power cord and a dvd with the drivers on it. I think we all agreed aside from how fast and small this printer is we were all impressed with the 5 line LCD control panel mounted on the top right of the printer and the web interface. Either choice is a great decision for exploring and finding all the required settings for most any circumstance.
